The hip is an important part of the body. The primary function of the hip is to support the weight of the body and retain balance when static (standing) and dynamic (walking/running). If you have severe physical joint damage your doctor may recommend hip replacement surgery.
Gateway Regional Medical Center's surgeons specialize in a minimally invasive form of hip replacement surgery called anterior hip surgery. This procedure allows for a smaller incision, less pain and rapid healing. Patients can generally stand and walk with assistance within 24 hours after surgery. Most patients can go home three days after surgery. For patients who are not good candidates for the anterior approach, our surgeons and medical team also perform traditional hip replacement surgery.
