New Bone & Joint Center Provides Best of Care and Comfort

Gateway Regional has long been known for our outstanding Bone & Joint surgeons and excellent quality of care. Now, we’ve assembled the finest medical team to work with our surgeons and renovated our facility to create a dedicated unit designed especially for our orthopedic patients undergoing hip or knee replacement.

The Gateway Regional Bone & Joint Center “Dream Team” Medical Staff

If you or a family member ever needs hip or knee replacement surgery, you won’t find a better, more experienced medical team in the region. Our board certified orthopedic surgeons from Illinois SW Orthopedics have over 100 years experience between them. Four of our surgeons trained at the Mayo Clinic. Our surgeons and nurse managers hand-selected the top nurses with the most orthopedic experience and best skills to work on the Bone & Joint team. They received special training and average 20 years experience. Our physical therapists specialize in post-operative hip and knee replacement therapy, and have an average of 15 years experience.

Anterior Approach Hip Replacement Allows for Faster Recovery

Our surgical team specializes in a less invasive approach than traditional hip replacement surgery. Called the Anterior Approach, it allows for a smaller incision, less pain, and most importantly, rapid healing. Patients can generally stand and walk with assistance, within 24 hours after surgery. Most patients can go home three days after surgery.

Traditional Hip Replacement Surgery

For patients who are not good candidates for the Anterior Approach, our surgeons and entire medical team are highly skilled at traditional hip replacement surgery.

Advanced Technology for Bone & Joint Surgery

Our operating rooms are equipped with the OSI table, which is specifically designed for bone & joint surgery. Gateway Regional has the only OSI table in the area.

A Commitment to Careful Pain Control

We believe controlling pain is key to rapid recovery. We use the latest equipment and pain control techniques after surgery and during recovery. While in the hospital, a nurse or other medical staff will also see the patient every hour to assess pain level and personal needs.

Our Bone & Joint Center is Designed for Patient Comfort

We designed our Bone & Joint Center for patient comfort and convenience. We have six private rooms designed specifically for patients recovering from hip or knee replacement surgery. Each room is equipped with a high-tech, special orthopedic bed and flat-panel TV. And, recovery and physical therapy take place in the same unit – no need to be wheeled down the hall or elevator for post-op therapy sessions. It all happens just a few steps away from the patient’s room.

Top Quality Care Before, During and After Surgery

At Gateway Regional, our top priority is patient care and excellent outcomes. Our staff makes sure patients and their families are well-informed of what to expect from a procedure, how to prepare for it, and how to live well afterward.
