When you first begin our program, you will go through an evaluation to assess functioning in every area. Next, you and your family will meet with your treatment team to talk about and begin to set your short-term and long-term goals during treatment. To help you get back on your feet, you will need a minimum of two of the following therapies: Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy. You will receive three hours of therapy in those areas per day. The average stay is seven days, but varies for each individual diagnosis. We immediately focus on helping you resume a productive life so you can become as independent as possible.

We also monitor all medications a patient is taking to make sure that there are no drug interactions or incompatibility with medicines prescribed during the rehabilitation stay.

Your Family is Part of Our Family.
At Gateway Regional, your family is the most important part of our rehabilitation team. We will teach your family the skills they need to continue your progress at home. Our team of specialists also helps patients and their families deal with emotional and relationship issues that often accompany a disabling condition. Before you leave our Institute, your team helps plan for your return home, finding and contacting resources to help you maintain and improve your quality of life.

Our Quality Specialists Are Here for You.
During your stay, you will work with a variety of specialists, including rehabilitation physicians, occupational, physical and respiratory therapists, dietitians, rehabilitation nurses, social workers, psychologists and speech pathologists. We also employ a team of physiatrists to treat your underlying causes, not just the symptoms of your illness. This expertise will ensure your health and stability long after you leave our hospital. Physiatrists are medical physicians who provide integrated care in the management of disabilities arising from the neurological and musculoskeletal systems of the body. As the population ages, quality of life is of increasing concern. Physiatry can maximize your activity, possibly adding years to your life. Physiatrists provide an aspect of care which take patients a step further in their recovery, thus complementing the care delivered by other physicians. Take advantage of our caring team of physiatrists here at Gateway Regional Medical Center.

Going Home.
Before you are discharged, a therapist may visit your home to determine if any adjustments need to be made to ensure your safety and maximum mobility. You may also be referred for continued therapy. If you do need continued therapy but no longer need inpatient care in our Physical Rehabilitation Institute, you may be a candidate for our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services, where we can arrange weekly appointments that fits your schedule.
